Privacy Glass or One Way Mirrors

Glass replacement in San Antonio Texas
Privacy Glass or One Way Mirrors

Privacy Glass is a glass that has a reflective coating on the outside of it and you can’t see through the glass. Have you ever seen the nice sky scrapers in the city with all the reflective glass and it looks really nice, some of it is blue, green, gold and so on. Ever wonder why you can’t even get a glimpse of what the inside looks like? Well, Have you ever seen the same sky scraper at night time and come to find out, you could see right through the glass if the light is left on. That is because these types of glasses including one way mirrors work directly with light. So lets examine, if it is sunny outside then the outside portion of the glass that has the reflective coating is being activated by the sun or direct lighting to reflect. So yes, yes, if there is no light on the outside portion of the glass, then it will not reflect, thus allowing you to see directly inside if there is light on the other side. Lets examine again, different scenario: if it is night time, dark outside, and you are working late in your office and the inside light is brighter then what is outside, then the glass will reflect inside because the light is activating the other side of the glass to reflect, causing you not to be able to look out. This happens with inside one way mirrors. I have a lot of business owners that call in and want a one way mirror so that they can see the employees working or customers coming in and out of the waiting areas. The only problem with this is the light activation again. You see if you are going to use one way mirror inside a building or home you must install spot lights above the mirror to shine directly on the mirror to activate your reflective coating, if you don’t, you will be disappointed because you will be able to see through it both ways. Here’s the TIP…. use bright lights on the side of the reflective glass or one way mirror that you want to reflect and minimal lighting on the other side, which ever side has the most light, that is the side where the activation of reflection will be on. I hope this helps to understand these types of special glasses.
